Rueben E. Laza, 83, of Victoria passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010. He was born December 12, 1926, in Shiner to the late Tom and Marie Elsik Laza. Mr. Laza was a manager for Texas Liquid Fertilizer retiring after twenty years, a former manager of Mid-Coast Fertilizer, manager of Victoria Butane and the former owner of Laza's Grocery in Guadalupe, now know as Ruddock's Grocery. Rueben served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was past commander of the VFW Post #4146.

Rueben E. Laza, 83, of Victoria passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010. He was born December 12, 1926, in Shiner to the late Tom and Marie Elsik Laza. Mr. Laza was a manager for Texas Liquid Fertilizer retiring after twenty years, a former manager of Mid-Coast Fertilizer, manager of Victoria Butane and the former owner of Laza's Grocery in Guadalupe, now know as Ruddock's Grocery. Rueben served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was past commander of the VFW Post #4146.

Survivors include his wife, Nickie Kucera Laza; daughter, Sherry Jurkash and husband, Billy; son, Michael Laza and wife, Frances, all of Victoria; four grandchildren, Darrell Mayfield, Jr. and wife, Amber, Meridith Byrd and husband, Chad, Cari Laza, Lori Mayfield and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Caden Mayfield.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 6-8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be 10 AM on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Helms officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA and the WV will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Mayfield, Jr., Chad Byrd, Thomas Laza, Ron Malina, Ben Malina, Jr., and Frank Malina.

Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters, Lori Mayfield, Cari Laza, Meridith Byrd and Dr. Larry Riedel.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, VFW Post #4146 or a charity of the donor's choice.

The family would also like to recognize and give special thanks to Dianne McMurray for her wonderful care of Mr. Laza.
